E.S.P championship ported kit, please read this..

Post by Suomipoika » 10 Aug 2012, 21:28

Hello my lovely neighbour´s. ;)
Have you guys had or have this esp kit?
I bought that and boy i have had so many broplems with it.
Or i wont say the kit is the broplem, but everythin are doing this mix..
I had first normal zenoah crankcase and i used cy +2mm crankshaft in that, and this kit..
So i thought that it should rock like a star, but boy i was wrong.
First test film for my esp kit and it was 30,5cc on this film and i had fluid-rc pipe..

Like you can see, there are now low end power at all...
So i thought that it was because this kit was not mented to be used with this +2mm cranshaft i bought normal lenght crank.
But i had still low end power.
I also think that maybe that pipe wont work well with this porting, and i used jetpro v2 pipe..
No change at all.

So i bought dominator v2 pipe what is famous for it´s low end grunt...
Well i had much more low end power, but it still not run like it should.

One of my friend told me that i should check the clearance of my engine by using tin wire.
You do it like this.
Take off the plug, use 1,5mm or 2mm tin wire and make a L to the wire.
Put it in to the cylinder, so tha the end of that wire reach to the cylinder wall.
Gently pull the pull starter so that the wire will flatten between the piston and top of the cylinder.
Now measure that tin wire with a digital caliper.
I had 1.2mm clearance in my engine with stock 28mm crankshaft and this ported kit, so there is no way that there is
right compression ratio in my engine.
So what i did, i took off the gasket and i put hylomar seal between the block and cylinder.
This how i managed lower my compression ratio, and there was no only 0,7mm clearance between the cylinder top and piston.
This is how it took off after that modification....

In tarmac it was like a old turbo charged volvo, when the turbo took the spinn, rear tires was burning rubber...
But, there was still lack off low end..
So what im going to do next is..
Im going to buy 29mm (+1mm)crankshaft, ans play that clearance, or also called squish to be 0,45-0,5mm with this.
But boy it has took me a lot of time and made me even balder than i am now...
So even those cylinders are came from factory, what these different factorys are doing and porting, can be a huge different´s how they work in different car and engine...
For now on, i will always do a check with a tin wire how big the squish is...
So every one who is going to buy a new ported kit or even stock and want to get all the power out of it, you should measure clearance of that kit and block...

Yes, this has been discussed here many times, and the general (safe) recommendation would be around 0,5mm measured with wire, that is usually close to 0,4mm in reality.

I have this kit.
http://www.davesmotors.com/s.nl/c.88503 ... id.7019/.f
It is weird that clearance has not be done in esp, stock gasket you have still that 1,2mm clearance and that is ridiculous
Well, i just need to try get that squish to that 0,4-0,5mm with 29mm crankshaft and right copper gasket...
Or took my engine to some one who has lathe and machined that clearance right.-
Both will cost a quite lot of money :curse:

But the description text says:
"The 4-bolt cylinders (G270/G290) right now have enough squish clearance to install a 1mm stroke crank with no head nods or cylinder gasket stacking (use the stock gasket), but that can change in the future, because the 2-bolt Zen G260 used to be the same way (now have tighter squish stock)."

And they also list all configurations and cranks you need for the different setups..... :hmm:

Yep, i have been connected to Doug..
H e told me that machine the cylinder or buy a new +1mm stuffed crankshaft and that would solve the broplem, but it cost at least 65$ :hmm:
Well, i think im going to go to that new crank and 0,30mm copper gasket, should fix the broplem..
It would be just nice if that cylinder would be done in the Doug´s factory, because it is stock size cylinder and should work just drop in, but it wont...
How much cleareance is in stock brand new 29cc zenoah?

Some new shit one this one..
I got finally that 29mm crank.....

With the gasket what is came with the kit, the squish is still fucking high!!!!
Stock one it is even more..

There is still 0,1mm taken off for sure....
With the 0.3mm copper gasket the perfect squish might be can taken... ;)

0,15mm copper gasket ordered, with that i can go low as 0,35mm.
That is smallest squish what can be used safety..

0.35mm is not really 0.35mm when measured with the solder lead..... more like 0.25-0.30mm.....
And that is a very tight squish that combined with high compression ratio would generate alot of heat.
Is the piston machined at all for heat expansion ?
A lathe would do the work to reduce piston diameter "just a tad" from top and just below pistonring.

To bad if you got the engine running too hot directly from start and destroyed.....

Now this engine rocks..

Pipe changed, carburator and 19t gear to gear box...
My baja is originally 5b not t, so the gearing was wrong at the first place, now it is like it should be.
Gearin is 18/56 on this film.
Not bad at all.. :rock2:

This same way they do use to measure squish in racing boat engines in China..

check the part owner manual :toung:
